Alternity #2: The Wave, A Day Earlier
Game: Pie Division with Mother Goose
Form: a small whistle shaped like a blackbird
Uses: 1 taken by Mau, 3/4 untaken
Type: full (starter/umbrella memory)
This is the starter memory for an AU in which the wave took place a day earlier and the Sweet Judy was on a slightly different course, causing it to reach Port Mercia without incident after the mutiny. Instead of the wave catching Mau as he left the Boy's Island, in this memory he is already on the sea just outside the island's little lagoon, testing his canoe and making sure it's balanced and that the outrigger is lashed on properly to the hull. He feels the pressure of it come and go, and starts to head back for his camp, but pauses when he sees the fish boiling out of the gap in the reef, and the birds exploding into the air. And then the wave comes, and is more or less identical to his real memory of the wave, with the exception that he doesn't hear anybody singing. Paddling back home would be the same as his canon memory too, although he'd encounter the birds in slightly different places, and when he runs across the big tabago tree, it won't have the alaki in it. The memory cuts off when he sights the outline of the Nation on the horizon.
+ an even bigger dose of what the hell is this than what he got from the one-off
+ anxiety about seeing into other worlds
+ burning curiosity

Unlike regular memories where there is a strong sense of the emotions and sensations in a memory an alternity is more like watching it on TV. Your character is very aware this is someone else's life and while they may get some emotional impact from it -- it should be more like an information dump.
