The space you are standing in is cold and grey and very still. There is nothing beneath your feet, nowhere to go. You hang for a long moment, in this place with no place, without direction or a proper sense of time, until the light dims...

It will take hours, but eventually the two of you will be able to send all of the bodies into the deep water. You'll recognize some of them -- his friends from Aather, and people you might have seen in his memories, who arrived on the Nation long after the wave...

After a minute his arms come up around you and he clings. It takes him a long time to cry himself out, jagged choking sobs trailing off into sniffs and hiccups.
