This memory takes place at the same point in the timeline it did in real life, which means that in this alternity, Milo, Pilu and Cahle must have been traveling on a slightly different schedule. The three of them show up in their canoe, and a reasonable number of people are there to receive and help them. The chief welcomes them, and the women take Cahle up to the Women's Place, where Twinkle is born. The traditional calling song is sung for him, and a spear is pressed into his hand. He is named something other than Guiding Star.

Mau is only peripherally aware of any of this -- he's on the beach when the canoe comes, but after that he's mostly working in the fields with the other men. He does meet Milo and Pilu a little later, though, after the baby is born, and likes them.
