The space you are standing in is cold and grey and very still. There is nothing beneath your feet, nowhere to go. You hang for a long moment, in this place with no place, without direction or a proper sense of time, until the light dims...

He doesn't seem to notice you when you approach, but as some of the weight lifts he stumbles a little, and blinks like he's waking up.

It will take hours, but between the two of you, you can send all the bodies into the Dark Current. You may notice that, other than Selenia, none of them wear the faces of the people you saw on the little sandbar, and none of them are from Aather.

[that's...at least vaguely reassuring to Ven, even if it isn't to Mau. and it means he's reliving his memories and not imagining some new awfulness at least. soldiering on for hours, stopping for brief moments to touch or talk to Mau if he looks like he's spacing out too much]
